Soundwaves Concert: Elliott Levin, Don Preston, & Bobby Bradford
The Soundwaves concert series welcomes tenor saxophonist Elliot Levin from Philadelphia for a set of free jazz. A regular associate of the late Cecil Taylor, Levin has also performed with artists ranging from Sun Ra sideman Marshall Allen to soul stars Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes. He will be joined by two legends of the L.A. creative music scene, keyboardist Don Preston, known for his work with Frank Zappa, Carla Bley, and John Carter, among others, and cornetist Bobby Bradford, who appears on classic albums including Ornette Coleman's "Science Fiction," David Murray's "Death of a Sideman" and "Murray's Steps," and numerous recordings of his own or co-led with John Carter.
They will be accompanied by drummer Christopher Garcia, who has toured extensively with Preston and other Zappa alumni as the Grandmothers of Invention, and bassists Andres Swanson (Kirk Wall & the Hillbillies) and Jeff Schwartz.
Admission is free.
